  My husband and I returned a £25 hat to Spiders yesterday after the bobble had become detached. This had happened within the first few wears, however, despite living in Whitby, we had no opportunity to return it until 4 weeks after we bought it, and tbh, did not consider this much of a priority. When we expeclained what had happened and asked for a refund (there being no like for like replacement hat available), we were told, variously: We might have done it ourselves We could mend it ourselves After a month, what did we expect? We could exchange the hat or receive a credit note, but were not intitled to a refund. We should not expect better treatment anywhere else. I thought it was an odd approach from a local independent store, presumably keen to retain local custom. It was a really unpleasant encounter, and although we came away with a credit note, it’s difficult to support a local shop with this approach to faulty goods. We’ll continue to shop locally, usually a brilliant experience in Whitby, however not at Spiders.
